Milner joins Spurs striker against Slovenia
England have named Jermain Defoe and James Milner in their team to face Slovenia in the World Cup Group C decider.
Capello first toyed with the idea of picking Defoe for last Friday's encounter with Algeria and, after watching his team perform so poorly in that game, he had no hesitation this time.
Defoe has previously started just one competitive game under the Italian - and he lasted only one half of that, against Andorra in September 2008.
However, with 11 international goals to his name - and three in qualifying - Defoe is a more obvious threat to Slovenia than Emile Heskey. And it is goals England need in a game they must win to be sure of a place in the last 16.
Capello had already confirmed Upson would replace Carragher in central defence and the third change sees Milner comes in for Aaron Lennon on the right wing.
England team v Slovenia: James; Johnson, Terry, Upson, A Cole; Milner, Barry, Lampard, Gerrard; Defoe, Rooney.
