Keeper says technology should not have been needed
David James believes it was so obvious that Frank Lampard's shot had crossed the goal-line technology against Germany that technology was not required.
The referee and his assistant failed to award an England goal despite an effort from Lampard striking the underside of the crossbar and bouncing over the line.
The score was 2-1 to Germany at the time and Joachim Low's side went on to prevail 4-1 in impressive fashion.
While it has been suggested that England would probably have lost even if Lampard's goal had been awarded, the incident has sparked fierce debate about goal-line technology.
England would have drawn level at 2-2 had the officials been able to view a video replay, but James cannot understand why the goal was not given anyway when the ball travelled so far over the line.
"You don't need technology when the ball's a yard over," said the goalkeeper.
Different
James thinks the result could have been different if the correct decision had been made, because England had to keep pushing forward looking for an equaliser in the second half and allowed Germany to score twice on the counter-attack.
"Unfortunately the incident has definitely changed the outcome of the game because (it would have been) 2-2 and we were pressing after that as well," he explained.
"It is a different game by virtue of the scoreline, it's a different game psychologically because they would have been under a lot of pressure and we'd have been in the ascendancy.
"Technology, it would be nice but in these circumstances I don't think it was something that was needed."
