Bolton striker feels he has more chance of playing for Jamaica
Bolton striker Kevin Davies has admitted he has given up hope of ever being called up to an England squad.
The physical centre forward has long been seen as one of the Premier League's best target men since moving to the Reebok Stadium, where he has performed so well in his six years at the club.
Many have called for Davies to be given a chance for the Three Lions, but he has been overlooked over the years in favour of the likes of Peter Crouch, Emile Heskey, Carlton Cole and Bobby Zamora instead.
The 33-year-old joked that he never tuned into hear the squad announcement any longer, and that he had more chance of playing for Jamaica at international level.
"My half brother is Jamaican, so I might try for them - I have more chance of getting into that squad than the England squad," joked Davies.
"England is not going to happen for me. Last season I was in a couple of the longer squads so you think that you have a chance.
"But even when there were 10-12 strikers out injured I did not even get a call up. It looks like he (Capello) is going to pick young kids now.
Disappointed
"I don't think that it is ever going to happen. I am disappointed not to get any caps but that is life."
Commenting on his side's start to the season, where they have picked up four points following an opening day draw with Fulham and Saturday's 3-1 win over West Ham, Davies admitted he couldn't be happier.
"I am enjoying the football for Bolton and that is the most foremost thing in my mind," said Davies.
"We have had two or three seasons where we have done well just to stay up. Now we feel that we have everything in place.
"If we get the confidence up, we can try to turn over the big boys which we have not done in a few years."
