Newcastle striker not being sidetracked by England talk

In-form Andy Carroll insists he is focusing all his efforts on Newcastle United and not worrying about a possible England call-up. The 21-year-old is being tipped to win a place in Fabio Capello's England squad to face France in an upcoming friendly following a superb start to the new campaign. The robust striker continued his good form in front of goal on Wednesday night by scoring his seventh Premier League goal of the season in a 2-1 defeat to Blackburn. Carroll knows his name is the one on everyone's lips, but rather than get too excited about the possibility of representing his country he is staying grounded. The talented marksman is much more interested in banishing the memory of their Rovers loss against Fulham this weekend rather than winning his first cap for England.

"At the moment everyone is now just looking forward to Saturday and putting it all right against Fulham," he told the Evening Chronicle. "We're hurting a bit and disappointed to lose. As far is England is concerned, we've just got to see what happens. "Nobody from the FA has been in touch with me and I won't find out until everybody else on Saturday. "We've just got to see what happens. I'm scoring goals, and doing the best I can do at the minute."
