Teenage striker happy with how his promising career is shaping up
Connor Wickham admits he is still learning, but is delighted to be developing his game in the public eye.
The Ipswich striker was recently named the Football League's young player of the year, following another successful campaign at Portman Road.
At just 17, he has already made over 60 appearances for the Tractor Boys and made his debut for the England U21s.
His rapid progress has been noted by a host of Premier League clubs, with a clamour for his signature expected in the summer.
Wickham, though, is happy to remain on his current route to the top, with another international outing beckoning in a fixture against Denmark on Thursday.
Advice
"I just want to show everyone what I can do on an international stage," he said.
"When I have been away on international duty all the coaches have praised me and pushed me in the right direction and given me advice.
"I am taking all the advice on board and using it to my advantage.
"Even to be in the team is great and is a motivation for me. I have to push on and want to keep doing what I am doing.
"To play football for England, and to win the awards I am winning, shows I have the right people around me."
Objective
Wickham scored six goals for Ipswich last season and has already managed to match that tally this term, proving that he is heading in the right direction.
"This season is really going to plan," he added.
"Last season ended on a high and the start of this season didn't get off to a great start but it is nice to get back on track and achieve what I have this season and have the support I have got.
"I am signed to Ipswich for the next few years, and I am concentrating on that.
"I want to work hard for Ipswich and get them to the Premier League. Hopefully we can do that. That is the objective for me and that's what I am focused on."
