Stoke striker hoping to reach 50 caps

Peter Crouch is refusing to give up on his international ambitions, but admits he may have to wait until after Euro 2012 before returning to the fold. The Stoke striker has represented England on 42 occasions and can boast an impressive strike rate of better than a goal every other game. He has netted 22 times for his country and has been involved in two World Cup squads. Crouch has, however, fallen out of favour under Fabio Capello and currently finds himself in the international wilderness. The 30-year-old hopes there will be further opportunities for him in the future, but concedes that he is unlikely to be handed a recall under the current coaching team. "I certainly would never give up on playing for my country," Crouch told The Sunday Telegraph. "I've got 40-odd caps now and I'd like to get to 50. "But I'm not holding my breath at the moment. "But who knows. The manager has said he's leaving after the Euros and let's see what happens."

No regrets

Crouch will be hoping that his club form keeps him in contention, with a summer switch to Stoke designed to offer him greater first team opportunities. He admits that he took the decision to leave Tottenham after seeing his route to Harry Redknapp's starting XI blocked, and insists he has no regrets at having turned his back on a top-four challenge at White Hart Lane. "It was best for all concerned that I moved on and I haven't looked back," he said. "Obviously Tottenham brought in (Emmanuel) Adebayor and it was clear he was going to play. "Maybe I could have sat there and got a game here and there but I really didn't want to do that."
