The FAI has admitted the Republic of Ireland's proposed friendly against England is unlikely to go ahead prior to Euro 2012.
Dublin friendly could take place next November
The Football Association of Ireland has admitted the Republic of Ireland's proposed friendly against England is unlikely to go ahead prior to Euro 2012.
The FAI has expressed an interest in arranging a friendly with England in Dublin before this summer's finals as a warm-up for the tournament.
The two sides have not met since 1995 when England fans rioted and caused the game to be abandoned with Ireland leading 1-0 thanks to a goal from striker David Kelly
The English Football Association is thought to be not keen on facing the Republic in May as they could end up meeting each other in the quarter-finals of Euro 2012.
However, FAI chief executive John Delaney admits a friendly fixture could take place after the finals in Poland and Ukraine with next November a possible date.
"The England game is looking less likely for May," Delaney told
Sunshine FM.
"The fact from the English perspective that we could play them in the quarter-finals....they're not that keen to do it in May, but they're keen to come sooner rather than later after that.
"But it's highly unlikely that it would be May now."
