Levein's men to take in November friendly

Scotland will travel to Cyprus for a friendly international on 11th November, the Scottish Football Association has confirmed. The venue for the contest is yet to be revealed, but the game will take place on a Friday night. The fixture will be played at the same time as the Euro 2012 play-offs, allowing Scotland to turn their attention elsewhere. Craig Levein's side fell narrowly short in their efforts to book a play-off spot.

Progress

Defeat to Spain in their final qualifier, coupled with victory for the Czech Republic in Lithuania, left Scotland third in Group I. There is, however, renewed hope for the future and a meeting with Cyprus will give Levein another opportunity to take a look at those he hopes will play a leading role in qualification for the 2014 World Cup. He said: "The players are all looking forward to getting together again and building on the progress we have made as a group. "Going to Cyprus will give us an opportunity to build on the team ethic and provide another chance for players to show that they are heading in the right direction as we begin our preparations for the World Cup qualifiers next year."
