European qualifiers: Wales left-back Neil Taylor unsure who will be first-choice

Neil Taylor admits he does not know if either himself or Ben Davies will be first-choice left-back for Wales' opening European qualifier against Andorra.

Taylor found himself playing second fiddle to Davies for club and country last season following his serious ankle injury in September 2012 which forced him out of action for eight months.

Davies departed for Tottenham this season leaving the path clear for Taylor to become first-choice in the Swansea side and the 25-year-old admits he would probably have left if his rival for the position had not moved on.

Taylor has started all three of Swansea's Premier League games so far this season, while Davies has seen his first-team opportunities limited at Tottenham, playing just 18 minutes in the league with Danny Rose ahead of him in Mauricio Pochettino's plans.

Taylor is refusing to take anything for granted that his regular club action this season means he is in pole position to get the nod for Chris Coleman's Wales side.

"You'd have to ask the manager the question, but I love coming to Wales every time," said Taylor.

"I want to play for my country and I'm enjoying my football at the moment.

"There's going to be competition at club and country level for the rest of my career, that's how it works.

"You've got to be at your best in club football and then hope when it comes to your country you'll be picked.

"I think it was always felt in the summer that either me or Ben would end up leaving because of the situation.

"We both felt that we needed to be playing.

"I know from my time out injured a few years back that when you're fit and able to play you need to be playing. That's crucial for any footballer."
