Steven Davis is eager for Northern Ireland to go out and make history against Slovenia on Monday night by extending their unbeaten run to ten games.

Michael O'Neill's side have not tasted defeat since losing 1-0 to Scotland in March last year, with the team putting together a run of nine unbeaten matches on their way to qualifying for Euro 2016.

Captain Davis has been delighted with the rapid change in form for a Northern Ireland side that won just one game during their entire 2014 World Cup qualifying campaign, finishing behind Azerbaijan and taking only one point from two matches against Luxembourg.

And the Southampton midfielder believes everyone concerned deserves credit for the dramatic turnaround as they look to secure a record-tenth consecutive match undefeated.

"It would be a huge achievement - I think you have to look back at the World Cup qualifying campaign to see really how difficult we found it to get any consistency," said Davis.

"To go from one extreme to the other and be on the verge of breaking the record is testament to the work the players have done, and the work that Michael and the staff have done as well.

"So, it's important that we try and keep the momentum going and it's a good opportunity to do that."

Davis also revealed his pleasure at being able to repay the Windsor Park fans for their support, and is relishing the prospect of keeping their unbeaten run going in front of them once again.

"All the boys enjoy coming back and playing, it's good to come back here and play in front of the fans," he added.

"It's often said, but I really do believe that the fans are a 12th man for us. They've given us incredible backing and I'm sure that'll be seen at the Euros as well.

"So it's been great to repay them for all their years of following us, and they can go and enjoy the Euros now as well."
