Former Germany coach insists Adler deserved call-up

Bayer Leverkusen sporting director Rudi Voller has criticised Joachim Low for excluding goalkeeper Rene Adler in Germany's latest squad. Adler would have been Germany's No.1 at the World Cup but for an injury prior to the tournament that meant Schalke's Manuel Neuer was elevated to the starting XI in the South Africa finals. Low has kept faith in Neuer for the forthcoming friendly against Denmark next week, as well as including Tim Wiese as his understudy in the 18-man squad and Voller is not impressed that the 25-year-old shot-stopper has not been named in the latest set-up. "With all respect to the other goalkeepers, in the future, it is only going to come down to between Neuer and Adler who will be selected," said the former Germany coach. Adler, who is now back to full fitness, was more philosophical about his snub from the national side. "I have just got to accept it. They were both at the World Cup," said the Leverkusen 'keeper. Meanwhile, Low's squad has already been reduced to just 17 players since Hamburg midfielder Piotr Trochowski was forced to pull out due to injury.
