Hamburg defender missing for Germany

Marcell Jansen has pulled out of the Germany squad for their upcoming Euro 2012 qualifying double-header. The Hamburg defender was due to be part of the fold to face Turkey and Kazakhstan, but will miss those fixtures with a virus. The ailment kept the 24-year-old sidelined for a Bundesliga date with Kaiserslautern on Saturday and will also keep him out of international action. Germany are set to face Turkey in Berlin on Friday, before heading to Kazakhstan four days later.

Versatile

They were hoping to have Jansen available for both fixtures, with his versatility a useful addition to the squad. However, the full-back, who can also operate as a holding midfielder, will play no part in Joachim Low's plans. The Germany coach, while disappointed to see his squad depleted, has opted against calling up a replacement and will work with a 21-man party. Low's side are currently top of Group A after taking maximum points from their opening two games.
