Joaquin devastated by penalty miss

JOAQUIN was disconsolate following his missed penalty that saw South Korea reach an historical World Cup semi-final.

The Betis star could hardly walk at the end of the game, suffering from an apparent thigh injury, but was brave enough to step up to take a penalty in the shoot-out.

However, with Korean keeper Lee Woon-jae moving off his line, Joaquin's powder-puff effort from the spot was easily saved.

After the game, Joaquin said: "It hurts my heart to think about it.

"Now I feel impotent.

"I would like to turn back time and ensure that it goes in.

"I was thinking about where I was going to put the ball, I always make one move to see where the keeper is going to commit, but he has held his position and I have hit it where he can stop it.

"After all the work of the team, so much effort, the disallowed goals....

"I have given everything, I had the dream to play in these quarters, I have played my heart out, but the world is not finished here, these things happen and it is necessary to confront them, in spite of my rage."
