Carles Puyol has refused to be drawn on whether he will end his international career after the World Cup.
Semi-final hero may call time on international career
Spain defender Carles Puyol has refused to be drawn on whether he will call time on his international career following the World Cup final.
The Spanish take on Holland in a showdown between two sides never to have won the tournament in Johannesburg on Sunday, with Vicente del Bosque's side having the opportunity to become the first team since West Germany in 1974 to follow up a European Championship with the world title.
Puyol was the hero for Spain on Wednesday, scoring the winning goal in their 1-0 win over Germany to book their place in the final, giving the vastly-experienced centre-back the chance to add the ultimate medal to the glittering array of honours he has to his name.
If Spain are victorious, the Barcelona captain will have won almost all there is to win at club and international level, and the 32-year-old has admitted he has not decided whether his country's first World Cup final appearance will be his last game.
"What lies ahead is very nice, after that there will be time to assess things. The decision has not been taken yet," he said.
Deserved
Puyol admitted his pride at seeing his team reach the final, but despite being slight favourites to take the trophy home, he warned against complacency, highlighting their shock opening game defeat against Switzerland as a lesson to be learnt from.
"We are where we deserve to be," Puyol said, according to Spanish sports daily
Marca.
"The whole team is looking forward to the match and wants to do something big.
"The game against the Netherlands will be very complicated. We are two teams with great talent and will work hard to win the title.
"A final is always 50/50. At first we were also the favourites and when we lost against Switzerland, it was a disaster."
