European Qualifiers: Spain host Macedonia in Group C clash in Valencia

David Silva shares Spain coach Vicente del Bosque's unwavering resolution that the deposed world champions will not abandon their famous playing style while attempting to qualify for the 2016 European Championships.

La Roja surrendered the World Cup trophy to Germany without a fight at the summer finals in Brazil, with critics subsequently declaring that the once all-powerful 'tiki-taka' system has become a spent force.

Del Bosque stressed that, despite last week's setback of a friendly defeat to France in Paris, his players will press on regardless by attempting to overwhelm first qualifying opponents Macedonia with their intense passing game.

And now Silva, the two-time European champion and Manchester City playmaker, has thrown his weight behind the philosophy before the latest competitive campaign gets under way at Levante's Ciutat de Valencia stadium on Monday night.

The 28-year-old told sefutbol.com: "We've won a lot like this and Andres (Iniesta), Cesc (Fabregas) and many of us are used to it, I believe we should go on with it."

Xavi, David Villa and Xabi Alonso are among the players who have retired from international football following the World Cup but a new age is dawning with young stars Munir El Haddadi and Dani Carvajal named in the squad.

"Very important players have left, but those of us who are here are important and the newcomers are too," Silva added.

"There are many new people and we just have to put the pieces together."

On 19-year-old Barcelona forward Munir, Silva added: "He's a great player, he's doing things well, he's in the Under-21s and that's why they called him up.

"We are going to try to adapt the best way possible and he'll be excited."

Spain are missing Chelsea hotshot Diego Costa, who will remain on the sidelines at the Estadi Ciutat de Valencia after picking up a hamstring injury.

Silva added: "We will try to manage (without Costa). Our success comes from keeping hold of the ball and that will continue."

Macedonia, meanwhile, have never qualified for a major tournament but may fancy their chances of grabbing third place in Group C and therefore a shot at the play-offs.

Despite the retirements of defender Nikolce Noveski and forward Goran Pandev, head coach Bosko Gjurovski is optimistic his team can outperform at least one rival from Ukraine, Slovakia, Belarus and Luxembourg.

Midfielders Arijan Ademi and Ostoja Stjepanovikj are unavailable at Levante's home ground due to injury while winger Ivan Trickovski is struggling for fitness.

Trumping Spain in their own backyard would certainly come as a major shock considering Macedonia have failed to win away from Skopje since August 2011 - even then, the opponent was similarly-ranked Azerbaijan.

They have failed to win any of their last four games and have not scored since beating Latvia 2-1 back in March.
