Diego Maradona says he is unlikely to be reinstated as Argentina coach in the near future.

Former boss says 'doors are closed' on Argentina post

Diego Maradona admits he is unlikely to be reinstated as coach of the Argentina national side in the near future. The controversial coach's contract with Argentina was not renewed by the Argentine Football Association (AFA) following a disappointing World Cup campaign in the summer. And the former great, who turns 50 on 30th October, says a return to the helm of his native side is off the cards for the time being. "I have no chance of becoming national coach," Maradona told Argentine television station Telefe. "Lots of things would have to change. Maybe it will happen later. Today, the doors to the national team are closed." Maradona also declared he did not regret saying that AFA president Julio Grondona had lied to him about wanting to prolong his contract or that team manager Carlos Bilardo was "a traitor". The Argentinian, who captained his national side to World Cup glory in Mexico in 1986, was succeeded as coach on an interim basis by Sergio Batista, who is expected to be handed the full-time role.
