What a weekend

I commentated on both Manchester United v Leicester and Chelsea v Tottenham at the weekend and saw Leicester across the line.

I was the first to be able to announce live on television that Leicester were champions, which was a great privilege. I shall be there on Saturday to see them lift the trophy.

You never tire of that feeling of seeing history made before your eyes. It's a real privilege to broadcast these events to you. Here are some of the key stats from this remarkable story.

Champions of England

Leicester have won their first Premier League title and the first time they've been champions of England.

Leicester are the first new addition to the list of English top division winners since Brian Clough's Nottingham Forest back in 1978.

The Foxes are the first team from outside of London or Manchester to win the Premier League since Blackburn in 1995. They are the first team ever from outside London or Lancashire (in old money) to win the Premier League.

Club records

77 points is a top-division record for Leicester, beating their previous best over 38 games by 22 points - and there are still two games to go.

Ranieri's side have won 22 games this season, another club top-division record. Beats the 21 wins in 1928/29 and 1965/66 seasons.

39 points at the King Power Stadium is a Premier League best for the club, as is the 38 points so far won on the road.

Leicester have lost just three games this season. Their previous lowest total in the Premier League was 11.

Here's a look at Leicester City's remarkable journey from administration to the Premier League title

Champion comparisons

They have won 14 games by a one-goal margin - only two Premier League champions have accrued more in a campaign (Man Utd in 2008/09 and 2012/13. Man Utd in 1993/94 and Arsenal in 2003/04 both had 14).

Leicester have the lowest possession figure of any Premier League champion in the last 10 years (42.3%).

Ahead of the pack

Leicester have scored the opening goal of a game more often than any other side this season.

As of May 3, Leicester have been top of the league for 135 days and they will get to 147 days by the end of the season. Their closest rivals Spurs in 24 Premier League seasons have been top for just 33 days and were top at no point this season

Prior to this season, Leicester had been top for just 13 days in total.

Leicester rank 18th in terms of possession in the Premier League this season, have recorded the lowest pass success rate, and only two teams play more long passes.

They've had 11 penalties this season, more than anybody else. Jamie Vardy has scored 4/4, Mahrez has 4/6 (saves v Bournemouth and Villa) and Leonardo Ulloa 1/1.

Jamie's magic

Jamie Vardy became the first Leicester player to score more than 20 goals in a Premier League season and the first in the top division since Gary Lineker in 1985.

Vardy's 22 goals included the run where he scored in 11 successive games. Vardy has scored the opening goal of a game more than any other player this season.

Marvellous Mahrez

Riyad Mahrez tops the list for most assists for Leicester with 11. The Algerian has directly been involved in 28 goals this season which is the most in the Premier League with his team-mate Vardy.

Mahrez has also scored the winning goal more often than anyone in 2015/16 (8) with Vardy second (6).

Classy Kasper

Leicester have used 23 players this season, with captain Wes Morgan and goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel the only two to play every minute (3,240 minutes each).

Peter Schmeichel won the Premier League title aged 29 and on May 2 in 1993. 23 years later, Kasper Schmeichel won the league on May 2 also aged 29. Both won the league as a result of their rivals not winning.

Dominant defence

Robert Huth and Wes Morgan have played together 49 times in the Premier League. Their record is W28 D14 L7 with 21 clean sheets.

The first-choice back four have played 26 times together with a record of: W16 D8 L2. They have only conceded 16 goals in those games with 14 clean sheets.

Midfield masters

Marc Albrighton has created the most Leicester chances with 61, having featured in every league game this season.

Andy King has become the first player ever to win League One, the Championship and the Premier League with the same club.

Danny Drinkwater has made the most passes for Leicester this season. He has made 1,912 with N'Golo Kante in second with 1,345.

N'Golo Kante has made more tackles in the Premier League than any other player this season with 158. He's also made the most interceptions with 148.

Three years ago on May 2, Kante finished 10th in the third tier of French football with Boulogne-sur-Mer.

A collection of Leicester manager Claudio Ranieri's most amusing quotes over the season

The Tinkerman no more

Ranieri has made just 27 changes to his line-up across the entire Premier League season. The next lowest by a team this season is Bournemouth (50). Only Manchester United in the 1992/93 season have had a lower number of line-up changes with 26 - though remarkably that was a 42-game season.

535 days ago, Claudio Ranieri was sacked by Greece after losing a European qualifier to the Faroe Islands.

Ranieri is a champion for the first time in his 28-year managerial career.

Ranieri has the third-best win percentage (53.8%) and points-per-game (1.88) of any Italian manager in Premier League history, behind Carlo Ancelotti and Roberto Mancini.

Bargain buys

Manchester United have spent more on transfers in the past two years than Leicester have in their entire 132-year history.

Leicester's most used starting XI, who have started together 13 times so far this season, cost just £23m.

The Leicester team cost less to assemble than the likes of individual signings Christian Benteke, Marouane Fellaini and Eliaquim Mangala.

In contrast, the previous lowest in the last five years was the Manchester United side who won in 2013. They cost £158m. Last season's winners Chelsea won with a team which cost £200m.
