Tyler's Starting Stat - London lowdown

I was at the 150th league game between Arsenal and Spurs in the league, but it was only the 142nd north London derby because the first eight took place when Arsenal were a south London team. Of the 150 clashes, Arsenal have won 61, Spurs have won 48 and there were 41 draws. Theo Walcott scored his first home goals in the Premier League since December 2010 against Chelsea. His previous seven Premier League goals had all been scored away. Tomas Rosicky also netted his first goal in 50 Premier League appearances going back to January 2012 at home to Bolton. Robin van Persie took his total to 29 in 35 appearances for the season with 22 in his last 21 Premier League games and nine in 10 matches against Brad Friedel. Meanwhile, Bacary Sagna scored his first goal at home; all three of his previous goals for Arsenal were away - at Chelsea, Everton and Leeds (FA Cup). Emmanuel Adebayor became the second player to score for both teams in the north London derby after Jimmy Robertson in the 1960s. He scored for Spurs in October 1964 and January 1967 and for Arsenal in September 1969. Meanwhile, Adebayor managed eight in nine appearances for Arsenal against Spurs and now has one in two for Spurs against the Gunners. Spurs have scored at least two in nine of their 13 away games this season, but they needed to score more to get a result on Sunday! Meanwhile, Arsenal have 12 goals in their last two games at the Emirates... bring on Milan!

Hi Martin. What a game at the Emirates Stadium on Sunday! I'd like to know how many times Arsenal have come from two goals down to win a Premier League game because I can remember them doing it a couple of times against Bolton. Has any other team had as many big comebacks as us? Also, Spurs have thrown away plenty of big leads over the years (they lost from 3-0 up against Man United a few years ago). Has anyone thrown away more leads than them? Chris Fleming (Arsenal fan) MARTIN SAYS: This was the sixth occasion in Premier League history that Arsenal have come from two goals down to win a Premier League game. We saw them draw 4-4 after being 4-2 down and they also came from 3-1 down to get a 3-3 draw last season. Just a few weeks after seeing Man United come back from 3-0 down to draw at Chelsea, I'd say the never-say-die-spirit is alive and well in the Premier League.

Hi Martin. Having seen both Paul Scholes and Ryan Giggs both get on the scoresheet yesterday against Norwich, I was wondering how many times the two have played together and how many times they have been on the scoresheet in the same Premier League game? Dan Perry (Manchester Utd fan) Hello Martin. I absolutely love stats and I make it a point to read your column every week. I have been a die-hard Man Utd fan for a really long time and I just witnessed another of the famous Never-Say-Die attitude of United at work. Seeing Scholesy and Giggsy score against Norwich made my day and that too on Giggsy's 900th appearance, the script couldn't have gone any better. My question is precisely regarding this. When was the last time this happened - a match where Scholes and Giggs scored the only goals in a winning performance. I am sure it has happened many times in the nineties and early noughties but considering their evolving role over recent years where their goals tally have decreased, it should have been quite a while before this happened. Giggs and Scholes have played together 342 times in the Premier League. Manchester United's record with them in the team reads as follows: P342 W219 D78 L45 F683 A295. Their win percentage is 64% when they play together and they pick up an average of 2.12 points per game. According to our friends at Opta, Sunday's victory over Norwich was the 16th time in Premier League history that both players have scored in the same game. This was also the first time they'd ever started together. - The win over Norwich was the first time the duo have scored since February 2007 when they played Tottenham - the side they face this Sunday live on Sky Sports - Sunday's game was only the fourth time that Giggs and Scholes have scored the only goals in a winning performance (after Bolton in 1995 and 2004, plus Charlton in 2004) - Manchester United have won every single Premier League game when both Giggs and Scholes have scored.

Hey Martin, I heard from a commentator that QPR already have five red cards, so I was wondering, what is the highest amount of red cards for a team to receive in a season? Emon Meah (Manchester Utd fan) MARTIN SAYS: QPR have indeed been shown five Premier League red cards this season (Clint Hill v Bolton, Armand Traore v Aston Villa, Joey Barton v Norwich, Djibril Cisse v Wolves, Samba Diakite v Fulham). That's the joint highest total along with Bolton Wanderers. However, they have some way to go to match the record for a Premier League season. That record is held by the Sunderland side of two years ago, which had nine players sent off in 38 games. Those players were: Kieran Richardson v Man Utd, Kenwyne Jones v West Ham, Lorik Cana v Aston Villa, Michael Turner v Man City, Lee Cattermole v Portsmouth, David Meyler v Portsmouth, Alan Hutton v Hull, Michael Turner v Wolves, Jack Colback v Wolves. REDS IN A ROW
West Ham have just had a player sent off in three consecutive matches. I was wondering whether something similar has ever occurred in the Premier League and what is the longest sequence? David Northrop (West Ham fan) MARTIN SAYS: We have seen teams have players sent off in three consecutive Premier League games, but never in any more than that. This has only happened seven times in Premier League history and I have detailed those occasions below: WIMBLEDON (1995/1996) You may not be surprised that Wimbledon's Crazy Gang were the first to have players sent off in three successive Premier League matches in October and November 1995 with Paul Heald seeing red against Newcastle, Scott Fitzgerald against Southampton and Vinnie Jones against Nottingham Forest. LIVERPOOL (1999/2000) Liverpool saw four players sent off in the space of three consecutive matches in September / October 1999. David Thompson saw red against Leicester, Sander Westerveld and Steven Gerrard were both dismissed in the Merseyside derby against Everton and then Steve Staunton was sent off against Aston Villa. WEST HAM (1999/2000) West Ham also had players sent off in three straight league games in September and October 1999: John Moncur v Coventry, Marc-Vivien Foe v Arsenal and Shaka Hislop v Middlesbrough. CHARLTON (2002/03 and 2003/04) Dean Kiely was sent off in the final game of 2002/03 against Fulham and then Mark Fish (v Man City) and Scott Parker (v Wolves) also saw red in the first two games of the following campaign. BIRMINGHAM (2005/06) Birmingham players saw red in three straight games back in September / October of their relegation season of 2005/06. Nicky Butt was sent off against Portsmouth, Neil Kilkenny saw red against Liverpool and Kenny Cunningham had an early bath against Arsenal. STOKE (2010/11) We saw Stoke suffer this fate in February of last season when Amdy Faye (v Man City), Andy Wilkinson (v Portsmouth) and Ryan Shawcross (v Arsenal) were sent off in successive matches. ARSENAL (2011/12) The most recent team to do this was Arsenal, who completed the first three games of this season with just 10 men on the field. Gervinho was sent off on the opening day against Newcastle and then Emmanuel Frimpong (v Liverpool) and Carl Jenkinson (v Man Utd) also saw red during a tough start for the Gunners.

CUP KINGS
Dear Martin. My nerves are still shredded after Sunday's Carling Cup Final, but I'm glad Liverpool came out on top in the end. We've got a good record in the cups over the years and I'd like to know if we have won more domestic cups (FA Cup and League Cup combined) than any other team? It would be nice to have some bragging rights over that lot from Manchester! Darren (Liverpool fan) MARTIN SAYS: Liverpool have now won the League Cup more than any other team following their eighth triumph on Sunday and when you add that to their seven FA Cup wins that gives you a grand total of 15 domestic cup wins. That means Liverpool have now gone level with Manchester United with 15 domestic cup wins in their history (11 FA Cup and four League Cups). I'm sure you'll be hoping that Kenny Dalglish's men can add the FA Cup to go ahead of their great rivals in that list. Behind them Tottenham, Aston Villa and Arsenal are tied on 12 domestic cups apiece - and Spurs will be hoping that an FA Cup win this year could see them pull clear. Meanwhile, Chelsea, who are also still in the FA Cup, are sixth in our list with 10 domestic cups. List of domestic cup wins combined:
