Feyenoord consolidated their lead at the top of the Eredivisie with a 2-0 win away to struggling Roda.

Roda, without a home win all season, frustrated Giovanni van Bronckhorst's high-fliers through a goalless first half, and even went close to taking a surprise lead when their captain Tom van Hyfte hit the woodwork just before the break.

But as the Dutch league programme resumes this weekend following the mid-winter break, so too did normal service with a goal each from Dirk Kuyt and Eljero Elia.

The former Liverpool man was on target, after good work from Nicolai Jorgensen, to break the deadlock in the 69th minute - and then with Feyenoord continuing to dominate as they had almost throughout, Elia doubled the advantage.

Lewis Baker, on loan from Chelsea, had a mixed afternoon in Vitesse's 3-1 success against FC Twente.

Baker's seventh goal of the season came after linking up with Ricky van Wolfswinkel in the 13th minute.

Van Wolfswinkel made it two before half-time, and was then again the provider for Milot Rashica straight after the break.

Mateusz Klich reduced the arrears from the penalty spot in the 77th minute, but Henk Fraser's hosts had already done enough to leapfrog Twente up into seventh place - despite Baker's late sending-off.

Ajax stayed in touch with the table-toppers thanks to two goals from Hakim Ziyech in their 3-1 victory away to Zwolle.

Like Feyenoord, second-placed Ajax had to wait until the second half before confirming their supremacy, with a penalty from Lasse Schone opening the scoring after Philippe Sandler transgressed.

Within another minute, the 55th, Ajax were in the clear with a second goal, courtesy of Ziyech.

Nicolai Brock-Madsen made them sweat briefly, pulling one back in the 72nd minute, but Ziyech restored the comfort zone for Peter Bosz's visitors 10 minutes from time.

In the late game NEC won 1-0 away at Willem II thanks to Jay-Roy Grot's 76th minute strike.
