Jamie Redknapp sits down with Aston Villa manager Tim Sherwood to discuss his approach to football management

When Tim Sherwood took charge of Aston Villa in February, the club were stranded in the bottom three of the Premier League. Fans would surely have been happy with another season in the top flight, but Sherwood has been able to deliver not only that, but a place in the final of the FA Cup too.

On Saturday, Villa face Arsenal at Wembley looking to complete an impressive second half of the season, with Sherwood at the helm.

Earlier in the campaign, shortly after he took over as boss, Sky Sports pundit Jamie Redknapp met the former Tottenham man at Villa's Bodymoor Heath training ground to get to grips with his management style.

Sherwood spoke of a hands-on approach; taking praise and flak in equal measure, but ensuring that every decision at the club went through him.

"I think managers should have [a hands-on approach]," Sherwood told Redknapp. "After, all it's your head on the block. I like to do it my way. If it goes wrong, at least I've failed doing it the way I wanted to do it.

"I've seen too many managers in the past give too much authority to other departments, and in the end the other departments stay at the club and wave the manager goodbye. I think it's important that the manager has the final say - or every say - on what goes on at the club.

"If it goes wrong, you've got no-one to blame, and if it goes well, you can take all the plaudits!"
