Sporting Kansas City's MLS play-off hopes suffered a setback as they were beaten 2-0 by Colorado Rapids.
The Rapids, bottom of the Western Conference, snapped a four-match losing streak courtesy of late goals from Dillon Powers and Marcelo Sarvas.
Powers rounded off a 78th-minute counter-attack by chipping over Tim Melia, but Colorado were reduced to 10 men six minutes later when Sam Cronin was shown a second yellow card.
It did not prove a hindrance, though, as two minutes later the hosts were caught on the break again, with Sarvas slotting home.
Sporting, who have failed to score in their last two games and finish the regular season against the Los Angeles Galaxy on Sunday, remain a point ahead of San Jose Earthquakes in the battle for a play-off place.
