Action from CenturyLink Field as Seattle Sounders beat Minnesota Utd 2-1

Seattle Sounders moved to the top of Major League Soccer's Western Conference after Clint Dempsey's injury-time penalty secured a 2-1 win over Minnesota United.

Ethan Finlay had poked Minnesota ahead in the 21st minute with a fine finish, but Chad Marshall headed home Nicolas Lodeiro's free-kick to level for Seattle just after the half-hour mark.

It looked as though the spoils would be shared until the third minute of stoppage time when Jermaine Taylor blocked Dempsey's shot with a hand to concede the spot-kick which the former Tottenham man converted.

The victory extends Seattle's unbeaten run to nine matches, equalling the club record, and lifts them to the top of the West, above Sporting Kansas City by virtue of having won more matches.

There was also late drama at Yankee Stadium, where New York City beat the New England Revolution thanks to Jonathan Lewis' goal in the fourth minute of stoppage time.

City were far from their best and fell behind to Teal Bunbury's 57th minute goal. But David Villa levelled with 13 minutes left with his MLS-leading 19th goal of the season before Lewis fired into the roof of the net at the death.
