MLS: New York City FC win while Josef Martinez scores hat-trick

New York City FC started the MLS season with three straight wins for the first time in their history after beating Orlando City 2-0 on Saturday.

Ismael Tajouri and Maximiliano Moralez scored 12 minutes apart in the second half to secure the win for Patrick Vieira's side, who were without David Villa due to a minor injury.

Luciano Acosta scored in second-half stoppage-time as DC United rallied from a two-goal deficit to draw 2-2 with Houston Dynamo.

Alberth Elis and Mauro Manotas netted for Houston, but Darren Mattocks scored in his second straight game in the 49th minute and Acosta, who was suspended for the opening weekend and came off the bench for the final 28 minutes last Sunday, equalised late on.

DC United's new Audi Field wasn't ready for the home opener, so a sold-out crowd of 4,000 attended an alternate venue for the fixture.

Josef Martinez scored his fourth career hat-trick to help Atlanta United beat Vancouver Whitecaps 4-1.

Vancouver's Kendall Watson was given a straight red card for an elbow in the box in the 13th minute, with Martinez converting the penalty.

Graham Zusi scored for the first time since the 2016 season to help Sporting Kansas City beat San Jose Earthquakes 3-2.

Ilie Sanchez put Kansas City ahead from the penalty spot after a foul on Johnny Russell. Valeri Qazaishvili levelled in the 34th minute but the hosts replied with goals from Zusi and Felipe Gutierrez.

Chris Wondolowski scored in injury-time for San Jose to move past Jeff Cunningham into second on MLS's career-scoring list with 135 goals.

Albert Rusnak scored a fourth-minute penalty to help Real Salt Lake beat New York Red Bulls 1-0 in the snow.

Columbus Crew extended their unbeaten regular-season streak to 13 matches with a goalless draw against Philadelphia Union.
