MLS: Portland Timbers frustrated in 2-2 draw with LA Galaxy

A late Rauwshan McKenzie own goal denied the Portland Timbers a win over the LA Galaxy as a thrilling game in Carson ended tied at 2-2.

McKenzie got in the way of Baggio Husidic's cross in the 86th minute and the ball looped over helpless keeper Donovan Ricketts into the back of the net to cap an exciting second half.

The Galaxy took a 65th minute lead through Marcelo Sarvas but the Timbers rallied with two goals in three minutes from Diego Valeri and Jorge Villafana to close in on what would have been only their fifth win of the season.

But it turned out to be a frustrating ninth draw for Portland, who had won their last three games on the road and are now unbeaten in five.

Real Salt Lake secured a 2-1 win over the New England Revolution with goals from Javier Morales and Joao Plata on a day when a packed crowd celebrated the return of US national team stars Kyle Beckerman and Nick Rimando.

Both of Salt Lake's goals came from the penalty spot, the winner in the 65th minute after Chris Tierney upended John Stertzer.

Another US star, Brad Davis, scored in his first game back from the World Cup with his 82nd minute penalty earning the Houston Dynamo a 2-2 draw with the New York Red Bulls.

There was another key own goal in Frisco, where FC Dallas secured a 2-1 win over the Philadelphia Union thanks to a mistake from visiting defender Sheanon Williams.

And a dreadful back-pass from rookie midfielder Jared Watts handed the Columbus Crew a 1-1 draw with the Colorado Rapids, Ethan Finlay making the most of his error to equalise with 14 minutes remaining.
