Vancouver Whitecaps beat the Colorado Rapids 2-0 to go top of the MLS Western Conference.
It took until the 73rd minute for the hosts to make the breakthrough and it was Rivero heading home Techera's lofted pass to score his 10th goal of the season.
Just minutes later it was Techera's turn to get on the scoresheet as he fired a shot past a helpless Clint Irwin to seal all three points.
With the victory, Vancouver moved two points clear of LA Galaxy, who host Montreal Impact on Saturday, at the top of the MLS standings.
In Wednesday's other game, Sporting Kansas City drew with the Portland Timbers 0-0 after Sporting goalkeeper Tim Melia pulled off a string of saves to keep the hosts at bay.
The point means Sporting and Portland, who are locked in a battle for a play-off position, a level on 41 points in the Western Conference with Seattle.
