Star man: Sergio Ramos - The captain is the nation's second-most capped player, and continues to play a key role having already won the World Cup in 2010 and European Championships in 2008 and 2012.
How they qualified: Group G winners in European qualifying, taking four points from Italy to finish five clear of the four-time World Cup winners.
History: 14 World Cup appearances since first featuring in 1934. Crowned world champions in 2010 after beating the Netherlands 1-0 in extra time. Previous best was fourth place in 1950.
Fun fact: Spain have not drawn any of their last 14 World Cup matches, winning 10 and losing four.
Best World Cup moment: The World Cup-winning moment in the 2010 final from Andres Iniesta. After a bruising encounter against the Netherlands, which saw 14 yellow cards dished out (including two for John Heitinga), the Barcelona midfielder slotted home with four minutes to spare to spark jubilant scenes for Spain and hand their opponents a third defeat in the final.
Player you've never heard of: Alvaro Odriozola - The 22-year-old defender earned a call-up for the World Cup squad after an impressive season with Real Sociedad.
