USA midfielder confident ahead of World Cup opener
DaMarcus Beasley is relishing USA's World Cup meeting with England and expects it to be his team's toughest test of the group phase.
USA will face England, Slovenia and Algeria in Group C next summer and will start their campaign against Fabio Capello's side on Saturday 12th June.
Rangers midfielder Beasley is aware of the quality at Capello's disposal, but believes USA can match England in Rustenburg.
"It's going to be a great game," Beasley told
Sky Sports News. "We have a lot of players in England and we know them well.
"I think they're obviously, on paper, the toughest game. England are a great side with a lot of great players, but we have a good squad of players that are very experienced with the US team.
"We think we have a good chance against England.
"When you get to the World Cup every team is good, they wouldn't be there if they didn't qualify for the World Cup and we proved that in 2002.
"We will take one game at a time, the first game is England and we'll put everything forward and try to get the points.
"We're a very confident side and we have a lot of players that will go to the World Cup with a lot of confidence in their game."
Make a difference
David Beckham's LA Galaxy team-mate Landon Donovan is perceived as USA's key man, but Beasley admits there are more strings to their bow.
He added: "Everyone knows Landon Donovan, who plays with David Beckham at LA Galaxy, is our main man and the guy who pushes us forward.
"Everyone will look out for Landon, but we have a lot of others. Clint Dempsey at Fulham, Oguchi Onyweu at AC Milan.
"We have a lot of players who have played at a lot of good clubs who could make a difference for us."
