Fifa secretary general admits World Cup plans are not yet finalised
Fifa secretary general Jerome Valcke has stated that South Africa is not yet ready to host the World Cup.
Soccer City, the proposed venue for the opening match and final in Johannesburg, is yet to be completed and organizers are still facing problems with filling stadiums.
With just over three months to go before the event starts, Valcke conceded that he does not know where all the teams will be based during the tournament.
"If the question is 'Could we host the World Cup tomorrow morning?' the answer is 'no'," he said.
"At this stage, we couldn't play the World Cup because Soccer City isn't ready.
"At this stage, we couldn't play the opening game. That's a fact."
Concerns
The secretary general's comments come in the wake of reports in the media regarding the poor standard of several of the training camps. Fifa originally wanted the list of training camps for all 32 teams finalised by Tuesday.
However, these plans have been put on ice as teams are still changing their plans for the event that commences on 11th June.
Valcke also became frustrated with England's Group C rivals Algeria, as they are yet to decide where their training camp will be.
Even hosts South Africa announced on Sunday that they had been forced to move from their original base as it was not up to standard.
However Valcke is confident that if every effort is made in the run up to the tournament, the event will be ready in time.
"We have 108 days - its seems short, it is short, but even if we have to stay awake all night, every day, we will be ready by the time of the World Cup," he added.
