Toffees star still chasing South Africa place
Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta is hoping injuries within the Spain camp will give him a chance to push for a place ahead of this summer's World Cup.
The 28-year-old has yet to play for his country and his own injury-blighted season for the Toffees suggested he had little chance of making the trip to South Africa.
However, the Spaniard has made an impressive return to full fitness and his recent form, coupled with injuries to key players, has given him every reason to bid for a call-up.
"It would be amazing for me if I had the chance to be named in the squad," he said.
"I am working hard, trying to get the attention of the manager. I am always hopeful.
"Spain have a couple of injuries with Cesc Fabregas and Andres Iniesta."
