Defender looking to keep things tight

Paulo da Silva knows Paraguay must cut out the costly mistakes if they are to compete at the World Cup. The South Americans have seen their warm-up matches for this summer's showpiece blighted by defensive errors. They cannot afford to be so generous in South Africa, with the best attackers on the planet waiting to pounce. Sunderland defender Da Silva will form part of a back line yet to find their feet, but he is confident improvements can be made. He has complete faith in those around him and is adamant Paraguay will be a different proposition by the time they meet Italy, Slovakia and New Zealand in Group F.

Concerned

Da Silva told Paraguayan newspaper ABC Color: "We must reduce the errors in defence - that's the only way we will do well in the World Cup. "It leaves us worried about the two goals we conceded against Ivory Coast." Paraguay were held 2-2 by Ivory Coast on Sunday, recovering well after going two goals down. They will now be looking to raise their game when they face Greece in their final pre-tournament friendly in Switzerland on Wednesday.
