Paraguay boss delighted with 2-0 success

Paraguay head coach Gerardo Martino was pleased with his side's 2-0 victory over toothless Slovakia on Sunday. The South American outfit are now well-placed to qualify from Group F in South Africa with four points from two games. Paraguay assumed a first half lead thanks to Enrique Vera's neat finish before Cristian Riveros wrapped up the win late on. Martino thought his side controlled the game throughout allowing them to move one step closer to progression to the knockout stages.

Objective

"I think we ran the match very well," said Martino. "We are getting closer to our objective to make it to the final rounds. "I think these results first have strengthened us mentally, spiritually not just as football players but in our attitude." Martino said his team could have had more goals and loosened their grip at the end of the first half and beginning of the second. "We were pushing forward. We had goalscoring opportunities but I guess we simply forgot what we were doing well," he concluded.
