Portugal coach hopes players don't get carried away by big win
Carlos Queiroz felt Portugal needed a big win against North Korea and now wants his team to secure a place in the last 16 of the World Cup.
Portugal built on a lacklustre 0-0 draw with the Ivory Coast in their opening game in Group G by crushing North Korea 7-0 in Cape Town on Monday.
Raul Meireles had given the Portuguese a first-half lead before a devastating performance after the break put Queiroz's side in a strong position to qualify for the knockout phase.
A draw in their final game against Brazil on Friday will guarantee qualification and even defeat may be enough if the Ivory Coast fail to beat North Korea convincingly.
Queiroz was delighted by his team's display in their second match, but also warned his players of the danger of getting carried away by the victory.
Great display
"It was a great display, good goals, great attitude," said Queiroz.
"We needed a moment like this, a well-played game so that the motivation and confidence can be even bigger now.
"It's a big result, but it's another game and we still haven't won anything yet.
"Now we have to think of qualifying for the next round, one game at a time, try to win the next one with the same ambition with which we approached this game."
Tiago scored twice in the second period and the experienced midfielder acknowledged the importance of rattling in the goals against a plucky North Korean side.
He said: "It was important to score goals today."
