Former international set to lead Belgium for the next two years

Belgium have confirmed Marc Wilmots has been appointed as their new coach until the 2014 World Cup in Brazil. Wilmots had been installed on a temporary basis following Georges Leekens' decision to resign last month, and has overseen their last two friendlies. The former 70-cap Belgium international had held the assistant manager's position since 2009 and has now made the step up following Leekens' decision to join FC Brugge in May. In a statement released by the Belgium Football Federation it praised Wilmots for the way he has "succeeded incredibly quickly in making a big impression as coach among all the players and coaching staff" after "taking over this role in unexpected and difficult circumstances." In their last two friendlies, Belgium drew 2-2 with Macedonia before narrowly losing to England 1-0 at Wembley last Saturday, and impressed with their style of play.
