Memorable day for Bobby with Jeff and the boys
Bobby Shearer was given the star treatment when he visited the
Sky Sports studios and watched a live recording of
Soccer Saturday.
The 18 year old was given the chance to join Jeff Stelling and the gang thanks to
Sky Sports and the Make-A-Wish Foundation UK, a charity that grants wishes to children and young people fighting life-threatening illnesses.
Bobby, who was diagnosed with Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy when he was just five years old, boarded a train for only the third time in his life to travel from his home in Hull to the Sky Studios in London for the special experience.
On arrival he met the
Soccer Saturday panel, who joked about his favourite football team, Manchester United, and was then taken on set and presented with a signed football before watching the programme unfold live.
Bobby was also treated to a behind-the-scenes tour where he got to see the producers cutting the show together and before long, the cameras were on him and Bobby was the star of his favourite programme!
Bobby said: "It was an unforgettable experience and one that I will remember for a long time. It was one of the most memorable days of my life."
Soccer Saturday presenter Jeff Stelling added: "It was a treat for us to have Bobby and his family with us for the day. Bobby's passion for football shone through and frankly he seemed to know more than Phil, Paul, Matt and Charlie! We'll have to find him a place on the panel."
There are currently 20,000 children and young people in the UK fighting a life-threatening illness and this year alone 1,200 children will turn to Make-A-Wish to have their wish granted. The charity needs to raise £5.5 million in 2011 to achieve this. For more information about Make-A-Wish, please visit
