Veteran striker signs for French Ligue 2 side

French Ligue 2 side Metz have won the race to sign former Arsenal striker Sylvain Wiltord. The 35-year-old former France international has been without a club since being released by Marseille in the summer. He had trained with French third division outfit Creteil earlier this month, while speculation also suggested Creteil's Championnat National rivals Cannes were pursuing the striker. But the veteran has now signed for Metz, who currently sit in seventh place in the Ligue 2 standings.

Metz president Bernard Serin told the club's official website: "The arrival of Sylvain to our squad is the culmination of several days of discussions. "We have put much energy into these discussions and have made significant efforts. I'm very glad it is concluded in this way." No details were given about the length of the deal, although reports in France suggest it is until the end of the season.
