Brighton release striker from final year of his contract
Chesterfield have boosted their squad for the new season by signing striker Craig Davies on a free transfer from Brighton.
The 24-year-old joins the Spireites on a one-year deal after agreeing a settlement for the remaining year of his contract with Brighton, for whom he made just five substitute appearances in League One last season.
Davies had a decent record at Oldham and on loan at Stockport but failed to reproduce that form after joining the Seagulls from Oldham in February 2009.
Brighton sent the Wales international on loan to Yeovil and Port Vale last season, and he scored seven goals in 22 starts for Vale, including a 5-0 win over Chesterfield in March.
The former Oxford and Verona forward played under John Sheridan at Oldham and the Spireites boss hopes he can spearhead a League Two promotion push next season.
"I am delighted to join up again with John Sheridan and am looking forward to a really exciting season at Chesterfield's fabulous new stadium," Davies told the club's
official website.
