Spurs boss admits admiration of City striker

Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp believes Craig Bellamy should snub a move to Cardiff and stay in the Premier League. The Manchester City misfit is reportedly close to agreeing a six-month loan deal to join the Championship Bluebirds after falling out of favour at Eastlands under Roberto Mancini. But Bellamy, 31, has also been targeted by a number of top-flight clubs, as Fulham manager Mark Hughes looks to be reunited with the Wales captain, who he coached when he was in charge of the national side. Spurs boss Redknapp admits he would love to have the fiery forward on his books at White Hart Lane, but concedes it is unlikely City would be willing to let him go to one of their top-four rivals. "Good luck to Cardiff, but it would be a waste of an outstanding player," he said. "He should stay in the Premier League for sure. "He's a Premier League player - a top Premier League player in my opinion. "I think someone's going to have to end up buying him probably. Unless Manchester City do decide to end up loaning him to a club like Fulham. "I couldn't see them loaning him to someone like us."

Options

Redknapp currently has four strikers at his disposal as Jermain Defoe, Peter Crouch, Roman Pavlyuchenko and Robbie Keane all vie for a first-team berth. Spurs have also been linked with Nice striker Loic Remy, who was recently chased by Stoke, although there has been no confirmation that Remy is a definite target. Redknapp did admit, however, that if a new forward was to join the North London club, he would look to offload one of his current frontline. "In our situation, five strikers would be too many," he added. "I wouldn't want to put myself in that situation. You'd end up with one or two good ones out in the cold and it would create a bad atmosphere at the club. "Because when you have too many around and one or two start getting them hump about everything, it can cause upset in the club and the dressing room." Tottenham take on Young Boys of Berne on Tuesday night as they look to secure their place in the UEFA Champions League group stage.
