Kieran Charnock has admitted he wants to make a permanent move to Morecambe in January.
The centre-half has made just one league start for Torquay this season and is on loan with League Two rivals Morecambe until 4th January.
Charnock is out of contract with Torquay in the summer and, being a Lancashire lad from Chorley, the 26-year-old defender would relish the opportunity to move back up north with the Shrimps.
"I want to move here permanently," he told
skysports.com. "I don't regret going to Torquay but I do want to come back home now.
"I've only got this season left (with Torquay) so I can't see the point of just doing another loan.
"I wouldn't want to be doing month to month, I want to extend it to the end of the season, which I think would put a loan out the window. I think you'd have to just let Morecambe take over my contract.
"Hopefully the two clubs can come to an agreement and sort it out. I'd be delighted to sign for Morecambe."
Promotion aim
Charnock made his second appearance for lowly Morecambe on Saturday and scored the only goal as the Shrimps knocked Port Vale off top spot.
Morecambe also shocked high-flying Bournemouth this time last year before making a late surge into the top seven and, with the Shrimps now only seven points off the play-offs, Charnock has set his sights on another climb up the table.
He added: "I'm delighted the goal got us the win but I'm equally delighted with the clean sheet.
"It's a great bunch of lads here and I think you could see that out on the pitch. I knew from when Morecambe played Torquay that there's more than enough in this squad to get out of trouble.
"But in the dressing room they were saying a year ago they beat Bournemouth 5-0 and went on a run from there, so hopefully we can build on that and push up the league like last year."
The former Wigan trainee has long been on the radar of Sammy McIlroy and the Morecambe boss is keen to reach an agreement with Torquay.
McIlroy said: "He's a proper centre-half and his job is to stop goals not score them so that was a bonus.
"I've been after him for three years and hopefully now we can get him."
