Italians win the chase for Chile forward
Serie A outfit Napoli have won the race for Eduardo Vargas' signature, with the Chile international set to complete a move to Italy in the New Year.
The 22-year-old recently announced that he had agreed terms with the Naples-based outfit and would soon be heading for Europe.
He will complete Universidad de Chile's domestic campaign before officially making a switch to Italy.
Napoli are delighted to have secured his services, with the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool having also held an interest in the highly-rated forward.
"Our doctor is going to Chile to carry out medical checks and then he will sign the contract," said Napoli's sporting director Riccardo Bigon.
Market
Vargas will be offered the opportunity to take in UEFA Champions League action at Napoli, with the club having booked their place in the last 16 of Europe's premier club competition.
The Serie A title-chasers were expected to add after securing continental progress, but Bigon insists Vargas is likely to be their only winter arrival - especially as two summer signings are close to returning from long-term injuries.
"I think our market will close here," he added.
"The group is big enough and after the winter break we will also have (Miguel) Britos and (Marco) Donadel back. They will feel like two new signings as they have not played yet."
