Coach pays the price for poor run of form
Genoa have parted with manager Gian Piero Gasperini following an uninspiring start to the season.
The Serie A campaign is just 10 games old, but tough decisions are already being made.
Genoa feel a change in management is required if they are to start making progress, with just 11 points accrued so far.
Three defeats in their last four outings have convinced the board that Gasperini is not the man to guide the club forward and he has subsequently been relieved of his duties.
Replacement
A 1-0 loss to Palermo on Sunday proved to be the final straw, with that setback leaving Genoa 14th in the table.
Gasperini leaves Stadio Luigi Ferraris after four years at the helm, during which time he returned the club to the top flight and secured Uefa Cup qualification in 2008/09.
Genoa president Enrico Preziosi is believed to have already approached former Lazio coach Davide Ballardini regarding the vacant post.
It is expected that Ballardini will be handed a contract until the end of the season, with an option for that agreement to be extended next summer.
