Non-league club have ambitious plan for FA Cup next season
Non-league side Wembley FC have named former England coach Terry Venables as the club's new technical advisor.
Venables boasts a wealth of managerial experience from his time in charge of the likes of Tottenham Hotspur and Barcelona, in addition to leading England to the semi-finals of Euro 96.
He has been appointed by Wembley FC thanks to the club's new sponsorship deal with the FA Cup's lead partners Budweiser as part of an ambitious bid to exceed all expectations and go as far as they can in next season's competition.
The 69-year-old won the FA Cup as a player and manager with Tottenham and has taken up the technical advisor role to mentor Wembley FC's manager Ian Bates.
Encouraging signs
"Managing, coaching and teaching football has been an essential part of my life for over 30 years," said Venables. "This opportunity to share my knowledge of decades with an eager group of players and coaches was too important to turn down.
"If they are willing to learn, I am willing to teach.
"Grassroots football is essential for the lifeblood of the professional game and if I can leave Wembley FC in a better position than I found it then it will be a job well done. It is early days but the signs are encouraging."
Bates said: "This is a tremendous opportunity for Wembley FC. To have a football legend like Terry Venables mentor not just me, but the whole club, is a dream come true.
"I believe that our passion combined with his expertise will propel the club to new levels. Terry's arrival has brought extra magic to this already fantastic experience for the club and we're looking forward to the journey."
