Simon Murray scored twice on his competitive debut as Hibs cruised to a 4-0 victory over Montrose in their opening Betfred Cup clash.
Murray's namesake Fraser was also on target for the hosts and the 18-year-old produced an impressive performance, which deservedly earned him the man-of-the-match award.
Substitute Brian Graham netted a late penalty to round off the scoring on a comfortable afternoon for the Leith side.
Hibs will face a tougher challenge when they travel to Premiership side Ross County for their second Group D clash on Friday.
A Marcus Fraser volley sent County on their way to a 2-0 victory over League One Alloa Athletic in their Betfred Cup Group D opener.
The defender's sweet strike was added to by Craig Curran, as the Dingwall team began with a victory.
Substitute Ryan Bowman hit a quickfire double as Motherwell started their campaign with a 5-1 victory over Queen's Park at Hampden.
The former Carlisle and Gateshead striker added to his three pre-season goals by scoring twice in three minutes, as Motherwell ran amok in the second half.
But Hamilton boss Martin Canning urged his side to be more clinical following their 3-1 Betfred Cup group win over Lowland League side East Kilbride at K-Park.
The Ladbrokes Premiership outfit missed a series of chances with striker Rakish Bingham the biggest culprit when, in the second-half with Accies leading 1-0 through a Darian MacKinnon volley, he skied over the bar with the goal gaping.
East Kilbride's Sean Winter levelled from the spot in the 69th minute but Hamilton steadied and, in the 81st minute, Louis Longridge headed in a Grant Gillespie cross, before Ali Crawford clinched the points with a close-range finish in the 90th minute.
Canning said: "The one thing at places like this, you have to take your opportunities. We missed so many chances."
Neil Alexander was Livingston's debut hero as he pulled off three shoot-out saves to hand his new club a bonus-point win over Partick Thistle in their Cup opener.
Chris Erskine put the Jags ahead early at the Tony Macaroni Arena but Keaghan Jacobs lashed the Ladbrokes League One champions level as the Group H clash finished 1-1 after 90 minutes.
Former Scotland goalkeeper Alexander - making his first competitive start in over a year after completing his free transfer move from Aberdeen - then saved three of the four penalties he faced, as Livi won the spot-kick decider 3-1.
