Pavel Vrba has stepped down from his position as manager of the Czech Republic national side.

The 52-year-old, who failed to lead his country beyond the group stages of Euro 2016, will take over as manager of Russian Premier League team Anzhi Makhachkala.

Vrba had been in charge since 2014, following the World Cup in Brazil, and had overseen an impressive qualifying campaign which saw the Czech Republic win their group ahead of Iceland, Turkey and the Netherlands.

This kept up the nation's record of qualifying for every European Championship since the split of Czechoslovakia in 1993.

At the finals however, they lost to Spain and Turkey and drew with Croatia, leaving them bottom of Group D, paving the way for Vrba's departure.

Miroslav Pelta, chairman of the Czech Republic FA, says a new national coach will be 'presented within a week'.
