Left-back opts against waiting for Germany call

Sebastian Boenisch has declared that he will represent Poland at senior international level. The Werder Bremen full-back had been undecided over his international future after playing for Germany Under 20s and 21s. But a lack of indication that a senior call-up to the German squad was forthcoming has persuaded the 23-year-old to choose Poland, following talks with head coach Franciszek Smuda. Boenisch told Deutsche Presseagentur: "It happened that (Franciszek) Smuda phoned me five to six times a week (to talk to me personally). "For me it is important to feel that a manager is fully behind me as a player. I have not been in contention for the Germany squads, this has not been changed lately. "I have not been receiving any signals, too. I moved to Germany when I was three years old with my parents and I know I have to up my knowledge of Polish. "I am not going to sing the Polish anthem at first, but I want to do it during Euro 2012. Poland has got a young squad, the team looks prepared. "Some players are playing regularly in the Bundesliga, Ireniusz Jelen is playing in Ligue 1. We can form a good squad."
