Sporting Lisbon striker ready to quit international football
Liedson is contemplating his international future following Portugal's exit from the World Cup at the hands of Iberian rivals Spain.
The Brazil-born striker became eligible to play for the national side following six years in Portugal and made quite an impression on his debut by scoring in a crucial World Cup qualifier in Denmark last September.
The 32-year-old started against the Ivory Coast and found the net in the 7-0 rout of North Korea, but was left frustrated as an unused substitute against Spain as the team exited the World Cup at the second round stage.
The striker, who has scored four goals in his 13 appearances, admits that he will now have to rethink his future under current national coach Carlos Queiroz.
"I'm very unhappy with the way it all ended," admitted Liedson.
"I won't discard the national team yet as I need to think about my future. I expressed a desire to play in the starting XI, but suddenly everything changed. The coach (Queroz) gives the orders and I have to accept it.
"I was not a happy player at this World Cup, especially in the game against Spain where we failed to develop an understanding."
