No star wars for Germany

Stuart Heaver is backing the unsung heroes of Germany to catch Argentina unawares.

Keep writing off Klose and co

I must first apologise to all England fans for still being here! Believe me, I would much rather be watching England than blogging for Germany but let's face reality; it was never going to happen. Germany have been seriously under estimated as contenders for this World Cup ever since Prince "penalty miss" Boateng crushed Michael Ballack's ankle in the FA Cup Final. Despite scoring nine goals in the three games in which they had 11 players on the pitch, Germany are still ranked as outsiders. I backed them at 14 to 1 which now looks very good value with less than 16 teams left in the competition. Once again, the Germans have already been written off for their quarter-final final clash against Maradonna's mighty Argentina before a ball has been kicked. According to the experts, Germany might be a strong team for the European Championships in two years time but as we all know "you don't win anything with kids". Much better to have mature and experienced performers like Lampard, Gerard, Ribery, Henry, Ronaldo, and those proven Italian superstars all now watching the action on the TV. Shortly, Messi and Tevez will be joining them in the VIP TV lounge wondering how they were turned over by a team of enthusiastic youngsters who aren't even on the celebrity 'A' List.
Dejected
For English men and women who are still feeling dejected and disillusioned after the abject performance (or lack of it) last Sunday take heart. There is some good news. At least we will be able to take comfort in the fact that England were humiliated by the best team in the tournament and future World Cup finalists. When Germany reach the final against Brazil we can at least blame the excellent Germans for our premature exit. This at least will be simpler than blaming the referee, goal line technology, burn-out, Fabio Capello, the ball, hotel room service, Sepp Blatter, Kevin Keegan, the lack of beer, ITV coverage and of course the unbearable pressure of playing football. Perish the thought that the reason for England's exit might be that we are pretty rubbish and Germany are actually very good. So get ready for Maradonna blowing his top and every pundit finding every excuse for the departure of Messi and his mates other than the simple fact that Germany are a decent team who are not distracted by superstar egos or intimidated by big reputations. Klose has actually scored more goals than Messi and he has only played two full games due do his ridiculous sending off against Serbia. He has also equalled Gerd Muller's all time Germany scoring record but he is not a big star in the Champions League so no-one cares. For the more experienced German players like Lucas "Stumpy" Podolski and Miro "Hold Me" Klose this is the most important part of their football career. They are not superstars at their clubs but at the World Cup they are big players on the world stage and this is their moment. It will be a very tight and exciting game which may go to extra time but the Germans will stretch the Argentine defence just as they did England's and Australia's. They have five players who have all scored in the tournament so we may see a few goals in an exciting game. So take heart England fans and just blame the Germans. Imagine what we might achieve next time with a few talented English youngsters minus big reputations and the VIP egos that go with them. Do you agree with Stuart?
