Winger wants to secure a return to the Football League
Former Rotherham United winger Stephen Brogan has set his sights on earning a return to the Football League after joining Exeter City on trial.
The 24-year-old spent last season in non-league football with Stalybridge Celtic having been released by the Millers last summer.
The Rotherham-born midfielder caught the eye, earning a call-up to the England C squad and, having started pre-season with Exeter, he admits that he is keen to stay at St James Park permanently.
"Obviously, I had had a couple of bad years with injury, so it was just good to get back playing again and I really enjoyed my time at Stalybridge," Brogan told
Sky Sports.
"I'm here for one more week, with two more games in that period, so hopefully I can do well in those and give the manager something to think about.
Impress
"Hopefully, he will see a place for me here and I can impress during my time at the club, but if not I'll just have to look elsewhere.
"I'm definitely looking to get back in the Football League and if Exeter offered me a contract then I would be keen to accept their offer, but obviously that is up to the gaffer here.
"I would love to get back into the Football League though and hopefully it will be with Exeter.
"I've had a full year playing under my belt now and the call-up to the England non-league team helped a lot to because it got my name out there a bit more.
"I went to Russia for a week with the England team and it was a really good experience, so hopefully that will help me in getting a new club this summer.
"I'm sure that there will be a fair amount of interest from clubs in the Conference, but I want to do well here at Exeter first and get back into the league if I can.
"It is a bit weird when you are on trial because you are always trying to impress and sometimes that means that you try a little too hard.
"The gaffer is playing me either on the left flank or just behind the striker, which definitely suits my game more because I prefer the attacking side of the game and I'm really enjoying the roles he has given me so far."
