Lecce to decide on manager
A decision on Lecce manager Luigi De Canio's future will be made this week after he offered to step down.
Lecce have endured a difficult start to the season after winning promotion from Serie B last term, and the pressure increased on De Canio over the weekend with a 3-2 defeat to Catania.
The result left Lecce in the relegation zone and just two points above bottom club Bari.
De Canio has only been at the helm for 18 months but is prepared to stand aside and let somebody else take on the challenge of trying to keep Lecce afloat.
Club bosses have so far not accepted De Canio's resignation but an announcement is expected within the next 24 hours following further talks.
"I told the leadership of my intention to leave the post, but the resignation was not accepted," he told
Football Italia.
"The final decision has been delayed until Tuesday. We will assess the situation with the management and try to find a solution.
"All my moves are dictated with the interests of Lecce at mind."
