German club part ways with coach following woeful run

Hoffenheim have sacked coach Holger Stanislawski following a torrid run in the Bundesliga and the club's shock exit from the German Cup on Wednesday night. Stanislawski, who joined from St Pauli in the summer, had seen his team record just one league win from their last 10 games. They crashed out of the cup at the quarter-final stage on Wednesday after a surprise 1-0 defeat by second division side Greuther Fuerth. The club's major investor Dietmar Hopp had demanded a place in the semi-finals of the tournament to atone for Hoffenheim's poor league run. "We have decided to part ways," said a club official. The official added an announcement would be made later on Thursday. Hoffenheim currently sit eighth in the league on 24 points from 20 games and are just seven points clear of the relegation places.
