The untouchable

Image: A born winger: Giggs on the charge - again

Kammy marvels at Ryan Giggs' consistent high standards and wishes referees could produce the same.

Veteran Giggs is still going strong, says Kammy

There were plenty of contenders this weekend but I've got to go with the Arsenal-Chelsea game. It was a massive game for Arsenal, a chance for them to try and topple a team that looks pretty much invincible at the moment and the bottom line is they came up short. It was a big game in terms of the title race and the result means it is now pretty much a two-horse race. The game itself was good - I was impressed with the quality of play - and Chelsea showed just why they are a class act. They look awesome at the moment, as though they've got everything. TEAM - Liverpool
Liverpool went to Goodison Park under a lot of pressure and no-one knew that better than Rafael Benitez. More people expected Everton to win that game than not because of what's been going on at Anfield. I thought Everton put in the better performance but at the end of the day nobody remembers the performance, it's the result that's all-important. Rafa can point to quite a few occasions when Liverpool have played well and not got their just rewards. Pepe Reina made some excellent saves, including that double from Tim Cahill and Marouane Fellaini. They had the chances, Everton, but didn't take them on the day so all credit to Liverpool for closing it out. PLAYER - Ryan Giggs
Wayne Rooney's hat-trick took the headlines but I thought Ryan Giggs' performance in the Portsmouth game was outstanding. It was his 36th birthday on Sunday but he looked anything but that age at Fratton Park. The level of performance that he has achieved throughout the Premier League is remarkable. He has got to be the most consistent performer year-on-year since the Premier League was formed and it's no surprise to see him reach 100 PL goals. Nobody can come up to his standard of play on a week-in, week-out basis. There have been better individuals - Thierry Henry and Eric Cantona - people like that but they have come and gone. Giggs has remained untouchable. GAFFER - Carlo Ancelotti
Roberto Martinez deserves all the praise that comes his way for getting a fantastic performance out of his side just a week after getting beat 9-1 by Spurs. To settle his team down, not concede a goal against Sunderland and go on and win the game reflects really well on him. Phil Brown went back to Manchester City where it all went wrong for him last year and got a point when no-one expected them to. Hull were 12/1 to win the game and something like 4/1 to get a draw so expectations were low so to finish 1-1 was a blinding result. But Ancelotti is my pick. If there was any pressure on him going into the game at the Emirates he never showed it and his side despatched Arsenal efficiently and effectively. GRIPE - Soft penalties
Mike Dean gave Portsmouth a penalty that was hard to understand and we on Goals on Sunday will be keeping a close eye on him, that's for sure. Nemanja Vidic did have a piece of Frederic Piquionne's shirt but it was a soft decision to say the least. If he's given that one he's got to officiate with the same consistency from now until the end of the season when it comes to those types of decisions. He's now set that standard for himself and it's up to him to make sure that he maintains that level. You only had to look the following day at Goodison where Jamie Carragher was all over Fellaini and nothing was given to understand the discrepancies there are within our game.

Hi Kammy, love your work. I'm a massive Gooner and as much as Arsene's the man I can't help feeling he has got to buy big in January otherwise Chelsea and that other team that I won't mention will find it to easy to bully us. What do you think? Peter Immins KAMMY SAYS:
The most interesting thing that came out on the back of Sunday's defeat was that Arsene, when asked about what type of side he was going to put out in the Carling Cup, said 'the Carling Cup is not one of our priorities and we will be playing the youngsters'; that's got to be disappointing for Arsenal fans to hear. Get a trophy in the bag Arsene and you will go some way to keeping the fans happy. He's got to get results. He said a couple of weeks back that he was happy with his squad, that it was the best he's had in his time at the club. I don't know if that was bravado but it's pretty obvious to everyone that Chelsea pushed them aside with their strength. They were lacking in power, simple as that. That's what he needs to add, perhaps up front and in midfield. CELEBRATE GOOD TIMES
Kamster, diddle me this. I think Jimmy Bullard is a total leg-end for his celebration. I reckon you loved it. Am I right? What makes a good celebration in your eyes? Terrence Dilmox KAMMY SAYS:
There have been some cracking celebrations over the years and there seem to be no boundaries as to what some players will attempt! The ones that stick in my mind tend to be humorous. One that comes straight to mind is when Ian Wright re-enacted Paolo Di Canio's push on Paul Alcock. Jimmy's was absolutely fantastic and I'm sure Phil Brown saw the funny side. I spoke to Jimmy about it on Sunday and he likened it to Roger Milla's dance in the World Cup and said it will be as famous as that one! Peter Crouch's robot made me laugh; Lee Sharpe doing 'the Elvis' by the corner flag has got to be up there, as has Eric Cantona just looking around after that chip against Sunderland. How about Romario and Bebeto doing 'the cradle'? There have been so many good ones. The game is there for entertainment and the referees should remember that when players score goals they want to enjoy the moment. Let them get on with it, I say; it's highly entertaining and good value.
